St. Peter Chrysologus

Jeremiah 15:10, 16-21; Matthew 13:44-46

Jesus tells us that the kingdom of God is like a newly found treasure. How can I experience God in this way?

Lord, having you in my life is greater than any treasure I could find. Grant me the wisdom to surrender whatever I may have to in order to have a greater experience of your presence. Always help me to be willing to give up anything for you.

Daily Scripture Reflection

Monday, July 28

Jeremiah 13:1-11; Matthew 13:31-35

Jesus tells us that our faith in him starts as something very small. What do I do on a regular basis to help the seed of faith grow in my life?

Lord, the gift of faith is a wonderful gift, but I know it requires regular food and attention. Help me to always be aware of my gift of faith and to always be aware of the need to help it grow in my life.

Daily Scripture Reflection

July 13, 2014
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

"...some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear." - Matthew 13:8-9

God's love is infinite and abundant. He does not hold back his gifts and his love.
But we do.
The soil of my heart had some pretty rocky ground when I first started attending a Catholic church with my husband. I really did not want to be there but yet I did. I thought it would be good if we all went as a family. I wanted to be there for my husband and my sons.
But I did not enjoy it nor did I intend to enjoy it. I just went. I sat. Like a rock.
Still ...  I did it out of love for my family. And maybe that love in my heart started to grow some roots and rich soil as I attended Mass there week after week, listening to the Word. And watching the consecration that had caught my attention.
One day, everything changed. I had been listening to the Word of God for months. The seeds must have taken root. In the middle of Mass, the thought came to me. It was time to make a commitment.
One year later, I became a Catholic.
God is generous. God is patient. God is love.
And God changed the soil of my heart from rocky to rich.

PRAYER:
Thank you Lord, for your generous and loving heart. Thank you for bringing me closer to you. Please work through me to bring others closer to you. Change our rocky hearts into hearts that bear fruit. – Amen.

Uyo Diocese Blessed with a Bishop!

The Holy Father, Pope Francis has finally, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, appointed a Bishop for Uyo Catholic Diocese.

The Catholic Diocese of Uyo had been without a Local Ordinary (Bishop) for a period of one year one month and five days. She was within this period overseen by the Catholic Bishop of Ogoja Diocese.

Uyo has finally come out of a period of relative vacancy following the appointment of Most Rev. Dr. John Ebebe Ayah as her Bishop.

Before now, Bishop Ayah had been the Bishop of Ogoja Catholic Diocese, an office which he had occupied for a period of seven years.

Congratulations to Uyo Diocese!
